Open your eyes!
Mary Kay (the company) not only tolerates but encourages abusive practices by providing inappropriate financial incentives for these practices.
Does this mean every single person involved with Mary Kay is unethical? Of course it doesn't. But people who remain involved with such a business, after they're aware of the unethical practices, have to make their own decision about it.
By remaining involved, they are facilitating the continued operation of the business. The other side of the coin is that remaining involved might be the only real chance to make a change to eliminate or at least mitigate the unethical behavior.
But you're going beyond simply remaining involved with the company, to the point of defending the company (if not the specific practices in question).
If this is part of some plan on your part to correct these problems, then more power to you. But if you're defending the company without trying to get the problems corrected, then I think it's wrong of you to encourage others to become or remain involved with Mary Kay.
There is nothing abusive about the company if you use your brain... They assume that those who begin selling Mary Kay Cosmetics are responsible enough to evaluate their financial situation and then work within their means to build on it. I'm sorry you had such a negative experience with Mary Kay, but I have seen nothing of the sorts that you have described.
I am not here to put you down or make you feel bad about your decisions, I just feel that you have been misrepresented and should take a much deeper look. I have had good, positive, encouraging experiences within my Mary Kay unit.. and people have shown me the right way to handle my business. And as for the benefits when buying more.. you only have to buy $200 per quarter.. I could do that on my make-up alone.
Again, I am sorry that you had such a bad experience. I do, nonetheless, think that you are not seeing the big picture. The incentives are offered for those who can afford it. No one tells you that you are worthless if you don't get a huge inventory. No one gets upset if you start off with no inventory at all. It's your decision.. and if it was portrayed to you that way, then you were in the wrong unit. The practices are not "unethical" but the people who make the decisions on how much inventory they want to purchase have to think wisely before moving forward to buy any product.
I don't think you should blame the company for actions others may have pressed upon you to take. I am not trying to start an argument with you, I just find it very sad that you did not find something better in Mary Kay. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak my mind.
Best regards and God's Blessings,
