In early years Mary Kay experienced spectacular sales growth but recently it has suffered from internal and external difficulties. Sales and profits declined, new management had a different appreciation for the role of the planning function, and it had developed new marketing strategies based on its understanding of a mission statement. The organization, in a review of the competitive environment, had been repositioned for future growth and profitability.
