Musing a little more on the dress code/MK image question, and I remembered that The Body Shop now has The Body Shop At Home, and I wondered what TBSAH might have to say about such matters in re its consultants ... the following is from the TBSAH website:
>>What is self esteem?
Many of our principles are about showing compassion and understanding for other people, but 'activate self-esteem' is all about you! Self-esteem is about self-awareness, self-confidence, self-worth, and self-acceptance. It's about respecting yourself, looking after your body and soul, and being proud of who and what you are.
Throughout the ages, women's bodies have been manipulated to fit the latest fad. We've been trussed up, pumped up, corseted and bandaged. Waists have been pinched, skin bleached, ribs removed. The fat sucked out, the silicone injected in. Wouldn't you rather be measured by your individuality, thinking and lust for life? Stand up for who you really are, stand up for self esteem.<<
Well, that seems quite modern and appealing, perhaps especially as it stands in contrast to the "one-size-fits-all" MK image and dress code; an image and dress code requiring a species of clothing and shoes sadly reminiscent of earlier decades - decades hardly exemplary for the equitable social and economic treatment of women. Are we women to be, at last, for ourselves, for our own needs and interests; or not?
Any company started by a woman, for women, and selling products primarily to women, seems exactly a company that ought to recognize, accept, value, and celebrate women for "who and what they are" - in ALL their wondrous variety.
