Wow! A lot of strong feeling. Let me ask you this. If the people I read about thought DirectBuy sucks would they blog about it. People that never bought the product talking about how they did not buy it or those who bought who haven't used it. Funny I'm 26, been a member for 3 years, and already bought electronics, furniture, sporting goods, and appliances. Still have 7 years to go. Maybe the pitch is tough. It is also what holds the company together. Funny, I have sources to buy the products that they sell. I sell products online. I still can't get the prices they get. They buy a lot of stuff, so they get better discounts, and pass the savings to thier members. I buy my products for more than thier price yet sell what I get for even more than that. Are you a customer of mine?

My wife and I have been members of direct buy for 3 years now. I think it is a shame that people are bashing it. My parents are also members of direct buy. After seeing the savings that they got it made sense for us to join. it is 100% not a scam! Some people may have bad experiences with a certain franchise as they are individually owned and like any business there can be bad ones however we belong to a location in Mass that has been wonderful. we have saved a ton of money renovating 2 (at least $30k) houses. The up front cost doesnt work for everyone but if you are going to be rennovating a house or buying furniture you will most likely save the membership cost on your first or second order

I think it is really sad that if you read the messages from people bashing Direct Buy you will notice most of them are form people who did not sign up. Direct Buy has 1.6 million members throughout the United States and Canada. Yes the sales pitch is cheesy but what sales pitch isnt. You do buy at cost and you do save lots. They will not have every manufacture out there but neither does any other place you shop. It is not a scam, when the sales people say the things they do it is to get you to join. If you do not see the concept and do not find it benificial to you or your family then they do not want you as a member. I think some of the people's example's are a little far fetched. Like the one who says the sales guy chased him out, give me a break do you think they care if you sign up that much? They have been around 34 years, I don't see em falling apart. I do see alot of NON- members complaining. The now or never tact is not a Direct Buy rule. It is handed down by the manufactuors and there suppliers. Direct Buy stays afloat because they trust Direct Buy. Yeah it can be pricey but in the long run believe it or not it is worth it. Direct Buy is not trying to dupe you. If you don't get what they are about then enjoy paying retail. I will always look at stores and there 50% off and wonder %50 off off what? It is the retail world that will continue to screw you with there mark up and funny little middle man. Direct Buy is selling something but they are not trying to sell to someone who will not benefit from it, thats why if you don't get it, they don't mind showing you the door. I have saved alot, it is not for everyone. If you are buying a new door then take your business elsewhere.. That's why they ask you if you are making any "SIGNIFICANT" purchases... They want husbands and wives not because they don't realize it's 2006 but because if you do decide to be a member it is a "SIGNIFICANT" purchase which is usually best discused by both parties. If you go in with a bad taste you will not be able to see the good. It is worth it, if you get IT. Don't bash what you do not understand. These people are not members. These people could not see the concept. I recommend you try talking to some members before making the choice to be a member. For the members who do have a bad taste. Unfortunatly it sounds like you did not really have a big enough reason to be member. You need to be making significant home purchases to make it worth it. You are a member for life and it is good for you and your family. Take note of bitter people who don't see the good in things just because it was not for them.

We have been members of Direct Buy since 2003, and we have always been good shoppers, and not dumb peoplewe use internet for many purchases, and have parents who live in Carolinas. Direct Buy claims are true, there is no mark up on any of the items we have bought, and savings have always beat comparable similar items through Direct Buy vs. other means. Bottom line, certain items save more on, such as furniture (even more than the Carolinas) and other items such as Asian rugs or lighting for the home. I believe these areas to be the most of your savings. The selection is never and issue, I think they claim to have over 700 manufactures to buy from. Yes, you do pay shipping and handling, but 95% of the time, you always save compared to any other method-including internet buying. My wife and I feel confident that when we do our kitchen over, we will have made a huge return on our investment. We like the selection and never felt like service was an issue. The people here in NY bend over backwards for us. We did shop at the Florida Direct Buy, and the people are different thereI know each is owned independently, through a franchise, which probably means it depends on each owner on how they treat customers. We like were we joined. We dont see any problems buying at cost plus shipping and handling. We alsways save in the end. Low end appliances and electronics are not huge savings. Everything such as furniture and lighting, rugs, roofing, flooring, plumbing, Window treatments are a huge savings. I see no problems here in NY.
