What can you do if you get invited to an Open House or see an infommercial on TV?

Find out information about the DirectBuy/UCC Total Home contract (DirectBuy Membership Agreement web search for DirectBuy Membership Agreement), which is the only thing they "sell". This contract has been called "grossly unconscionable" in a court of law.

Ask questions. There is a strong manipulative technique at work at these Open houses to keep you from asking important questions. The salesperson will try to make you wait until after the hour and a half, shrewdly scripted sales pitch. If you insist, they will blame you for interrupting, and/or wasting the other attendees time or some such nonsense. The whole environment of these open houses is designed to prevent you from using your better judgement. The "trainees", "eager shoppers", and some of your fellow attendees, are actually part of the sales presentation. So ask your questions early or you will have to sit through a long and uninformative commercial.

The MOST relevant question I would ask is:

"How much merchandise do members buy per year, on average"?

This question will let you know if the existing members are using their memberships. If they do not know, ask them to find out the answer. Obviously, the company would keep very close track of that amount.

Also you may wish to ask, "What happens if the club fails to provide any savings on any merchandise"? And "What happens if DirectBuy/UCC fails to provide merchandise I wish to buy"? Remember that it is a "Now or Never" type of scheme. DirectBuy/UCC relies on your trust in order to pull off this deal. There are no penalties in the Membership Agreement for DirectBuy/UCC if they fail to provide any value in the membership.
