Perry and his wife, Judy, have spent the last 12 years as franchise owners, and they are still excited about the possibilities UCC TotalHome?® has to offer.
"A UCC franchise is the envy of 95 percent of the business world," Perry says. "It is exciting, it is invigorating and it charges my batteries to recruit and train new people."
Success did not happen overnight for the Perrys, who say a commitment to their work and their employees and generous assistance from the Corporate Support Center helped them achieve it.
There is no other company, Perry says, that provides an awards and recognition program like UCC TotalHome?. The programs not only help franchisees keep good employees, they also encourage the owners to achieve great success in their careers.
"I have five employees who have been with me seven years or more, and it's not just because I'm such a great guy or because I pay pretty good. It has a lot to do with the ongoing, long-term recognition they receive from the company," Perry says. "I think that is one of the reasons our company has lasted 30 years through thick and thin."
Perry says the biggest challenge he has faced in running the franchise is remembering to change with the times while keeping a firm grasp on the tried and true UCC marketing system.
"I'm not a computer guy at all. I suppose there are really two things that are challenges for me: changing with the times and not changing too much," Perry says.
The corporation won't leave you twisting in the wind if you get stuck, he added.
"The training we had is unparalleled in my mind. The road warriors, the Field Sales and Service staff, is unparalleled," he says. "We all get into the ups and downs of the business, and they're there to help us with the downs."
Overall, Perry says the rewards of UCC franchise ownership far outweigh any challenges thrown into his path. And the financial reward, although substantial, is not the first thing that comes to his mind. It's his pride in ownership, his relationships with fellow franchisees, employees and members and the opportunity he has to help young professionals grow in their careers.
"I think the real key to our business is that you can have good
people working for you and you can enjoy a lifestyle that not many people
get," he says.
