This complaint was filed by a consumer against DirectBuy of Akron-Canton on 3/11/2004.

description of complaint: The presentation was directed mainly to products that the reps wanted you to believe were a great savings. When asked to show us products that we might have been familiar with, the rep insisted that we had to have module numbers to get the right price comparison. We did not know we would have to make a decision that night nor were we able to do comparison shopping before going. It was late at night and what theyshowed us seemed to be a good savings.

They did tell us that the membership was not on a trial basis. However, when we left was when they finally gave us a "Direction" catalog.

Some items did not have any prices in it. I tried to get on their website as soon as I got home to view some products we were truly looking to buy. I was unable to get on, because we had not received a PIN to get in.

The next morning, my husband called to cancel, and they refused. Even though their pitch is geared to doing something good for consumers, I feel we were tricked and I have yet to get any kind of customer service from them.

When I called back that night (3/10/2004), the office manager (Wayne Spooner) wanted us to come back in so he could convince us further. It is over an hour from our home in Cleveland and by this time, we did not trust them at all.

In the last couple of days, I have tried to give it a fair assessment, but there are no prices on the website either. I have to call them long distance, they do not respond to my e-mails.

I feel that they know (in no uncertain terms) that we are unhappy with the decision, but they have our money and a signed credit card voucher for the $1000 balance in 30 days, and they are on to the next unsuspecting customer.

Even if we would try to live with the terms of the contract, it is very difficult to get information on products we are interested in buying. (Price, delivery is several weeks away on just about everything, and [going] many times to the showroom. Warranty, what hapens if something comes damages?)
